Planetary Anomaly Hunter

Compares two images of the same patch of Mars, the Moon or an asteroid. It registers them, normalizes brightness, finds changes, screens out sensor artifacts, and ranks what is left with a confidence score. It also scans a single image for rare textures.

A synthetic Mars-like pair with known injected changes and one detector stripe, so you can check what the hunter finds against ground truth.

Detection settings

Detection threshold 4.5 σ

Minimum change size 6 px

Rare-feature tile size 16 px

σ is a robust standard deviation of the difference image (median absolute deviation), so a few large changes do not inflate the noise estimate.
